Law Enforcement
The Law Enforcement program is a one- to two-year program for juniors and seniors and is offered as a morning class. Students can earn up to 18 Yavapai College credits while progressing toward certifications in APCO Public Safety Telecommunication, Dispatcher, Crime Scene Investigation, and Arizona Department of Public Safety Security Guard. Classes are held at the VACTE Campus in Cottonwood.

Jennifer Choate
Ms. Choate retired after serving her community for 20 years with the Salt Lake City Police Department in Utah. After a successful career in law enforcement, she began her next career path with VACTE as the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Advisor. She has been with VACTE for the past four years and brings a wealth of real-world experience and knowledge to the program.
Ms. Choate is passionate about preparing students for careers in law enforcement and public safety. Her dedication to her students and the program has been recognized through numerous accomplishments, including being named Yavapai County Teacher of the Year. Over the past four years, several of her students have earned regional and national recognition through their involvement in the SkillsUSA student club.
As a certified ASP Defensive Tactics Instructor, Ms. Choate provides students with hands-on training and valuable skills that can prepare them for careers in law enforcement. Students who successfully complete their first year in the Law Enforcement Program can earn certification in basic defensive tactics and have the opportunity to pursue advanced skills during their second year. Students can also earn up to nine college credit hours through dual enrollment at Yavapai College.
Ms. Choate is proud of the strong partnerships the VACTE Law Enforcement Program has developed with the Cottonwood Police Department and Dispatch. These partnerships provide valuable opportunities for senior students, including participation in a 911 Internship Program and the chance to experience the daily responsibilities of a law enforcement officer through the department's ride-along program.
Outside of VACTE, Ms. Choate enjoys spending quality time with her husband, their two adult children, and her grandchildren. Family is an important part of her life, and she especially enjoys making memories and spending time with her grandchildren. Her commitment to serving others continues both in her professional life and through the students she mentors and prepares for the future.
