Course Overview
Teacher Training I & II is a full-year course designed to introduce students to the knowledge and skills needed for success in the field of education. Students explore learning styles, multiple intelligences, stages of development, and creative instructional strategies for teaching students of all ages.
Students gain hands-on experience through the creation, design, and implementation of lesson plans and participate in a practicum experience two to three days per week at educational sites aligned with their grade-level interests. This immersive experience allows students to explore teaching as a career while developing real-world classroom skills.
College Credit & Certifications
Upon successful completion, students may earn up to 12 dual-enrollment credits from Yavapai College, which transfer to university teacher preparation programs.
Students also have the opportunity to earn:
- Paraprofessional in Education Certification (WorkKeys)
- Level I State Fingerprint Clearance Card
- CPR/First Aid/AED Certification

Teacher Training III & IV
Teacher Training III & IV continues to prepare students for success in the field of education through advanced coursework and hands-on teaching experience. Students will earn 9 college credits through dual enrollment while gaining real-world classroom experience.
Students will complete the following Yavapai College courses:
- EDU 240 – Family & Community Partnerships
- ECE 234 – Child Development
- EDU 180 – Technology in Education
As part of the program, students will participate in an educational instruction practicum three days per week, where they will practice teaching in grade levels of their choice. A paid internship may be available during this practicum experience.
Upon completion, students may continue at Yavapai College to earn an Associate of Arts in Elementary Education, then transfer to a state university to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and earn an Arizona State Teaching Certificate.
Students may also have the opportunity to enter a Teacher Certification program that offers loan forgiveness in exchange for a five-year teaching commitment in Arizona.
